Number of businesses based in Dorset falls for first time in 10 years

After peaking in 2019 the total number of businesses registered in Dorset fell for the first time in more than ten years of consistent growth. The decrease of 4.8% saw 54,841 companies located in the county at the end of 2020, compared to 57,606 at the close of the previous year.

On a more positive note, 7,253 new companies were registered in Dorset in 2020 and the 4,938 businesses that closed their doors for the last time during the year represented a 23.3% fall in company dissolutions compared to the previous year.
