Solid increase in company formation in England in 2018

Company formation in England increased in 2018, with 598,323 new companies formed during the year easily exceeding 2017’s figure of 569,585. It also led to an all-time high in the number of companies based in England, which totalled 3,811,674 at the end of 2018.

London continued to dominate company formation activity, with 217,617 new companies started in the capital. There were 32,571 companies incorporated in the West Midlands, 31,875 in Greater Manchester, 18,204 in West Yorkshire and 17,603 in Essex.
