Business concern as company formation in the East Riding of Yorkshire stalls

There was some concern about the entrepreneurial performance of the East Riding of Yorkshire, as the number of companies formed there fell year on year. The 3,195 companies formed in 2018 compared with 4,646 in 2017 and 4,080 in 2016. With a number of existing companies also moving out of the East Riding, the total company population dropped from 25,585 at the end of 2017 to 24,661 at the close of 2018.

In 2018, there were 1,375 companies formed in Kingston upon Hull, with the remainder based elsewhere in the East Riding.
