Record number of people start a company in Durham in 2018

Durham witnessed a record count of people starting a company in 2018, with 5,223 startups compared to 4,077 in 2017. At the end of the year, the number of companies based in the county stood at 28,771, up 8.3% on a year earlier.

There were strong performances across the county. 1,582 new companies were started in Darlington, with 783 in Stockton-on-Tees, 476 in Hartlepool and 2,335 in the remainder of the county.
