Number of companies in South Yorkshire reaches record high

South Yorkshire ended 2023 with 73,897 registered companies, a gain of 2.6% on 2022’s figure of 72,058. It also kept its 16^th place in the counties league table of company formations.

This record figure was tempered by a slight drop in the number of new companies formed: 11,638 new registrations happened in 2023 against 11,901 in 2022. Dissolutions also rose significantly: 9,819 businesses closed their doors during 2023 against 8,243 in 2022. These figures kept growth for the county flat in 2023, despite the record number of companies.
