Oxfordshire climbs three places in company formations league table, achieves record year

Despite slow growth that saw it fall two places in the ‘total number of companies’ league table, more companies were formed in Oxfordshire in 2023 than in any previous year: 5,446. More companies were also dissolved than in previous years (4,452), which held back overall growth to a low figure of 2.7%, but the number of companies formed per 1,000 people rose from 7.4 to 8.3, reflecting a more active entrepreneurial population. This is a testament to the resilience of Oxfordshire businesspeople during a tough year that saw rising costs and interest rates, plus lukewarm consumer confidence due to the cost of living crisis.
