12.1% more new businesses started in Cambridgeshire in 2023 than 2022

It was a record year for company formations in Cambridgeshire in 2023, making the county one of the UK’s strongest performers in new business start-ups. 8,677 new companies were started over the last 12 months versus 7,739 in 2022 – an impressive increase of 12.1% year on year.

The total number of companies in Cambridgeshire grew to 60,023 by the end of 2023, an all-time record which shows the healthy number of dissolutions versus formations (a relatively low 6,535 companies were wound up in Cambridgeshire in 2023). Despite challenging trading conditions including rising costs and interest rates and wavering consumer confidence, Cambridgeshire’s entrepreneurs gave a resilient performance.
