The number of new companies opening in Bristol during 2022 falls for the second year in a row.

With 4,951 new businesses being formed in Bristol during 2022 – 3.4% less than the preceding year – the county continued a worrying downward trend in new formation activity.

With that being said, Bristol does manage to hold on to position 38 in the league table of total number of companies registered by county with a growth rate for 2022 of 2.2%. Whilst modest, it is certainly heading in the right direction after a potentially concerning 2021. This is helped in part by the number of businesses closing their doors over the course of the year also decreasing by 7.7% fuelling hope for the county’s entrepreneurs yet.
