Challenges of another year of lockdown evident in Surrey as growth hits a 10 year low.

The number of businesses closing down in Surrey during 2021 was almost on parr with the number of new businesses opening their doors at 10,487 and 11,021 respectively. This amounts to a disenchanting overall growth rate for the county of just 1% with the number of new incorporations falling by 8.1% since 2020.

The numbers become even more disheartening when considering the 5 year growth rate for Surrey is just 9.92% meaning that over the medium term the region has very much underperformed the UK average growth rate of 26.3%.

Despite this, the county maintains 9th position when looking at the total number of existing companies and with 94 companies per 1000 people by the end of 2021, Surrey is not to be discounted as an attractive place to open a new business.
