The number of businesses registered in Rutland falls for the first time after many years of consistent growth.

Due to both record numbers of dissolutions and the lowest number of new incorporations since 2015 , the total number of companies registered in Rutland fell from 2,257 in 2020 to 2,056 in 2021. The county was unable to maintain the positive levels of growth seen in previous years and instead it saw a marked 8.9% decrease highlighting the difficulties resulting from another year of lockdown.

When looking at company activity in Rutland this negative growth is not surprising. 236 businesses closed their doors for the last time over the year, a 108.85% increase on 2020 which was a particularly thriving year. Hopefully 2022 will see better things to come for local businesses.
