Revival in new company startups sees Dorset return to growth

After the disappointing performance of 2020, which saw the total number of companies registered in the county contract by 4.8%, business performance rallied in Dorset in 2021. With 7,584 new companies there was a welcome return to expansion in Dorset and by the end of the year there were 56,465 businesses based in the county.

However, 6,001 companies ceased trading in Dorset during the course of 2021, well above the 10 year average of 4,642 businesses dissolved annually. This surge in the rate of company dissolutions held growth in check and prevented a return to the 2019 high point of 57,606 businesses registered in Dorset.
