Number of businesses based in Devon reaches all-time high

Devon continued to demonstrate growth with the total number of companies registered in the county increasing by 4.8% to a new high of 60,022 businesses at the end of 2021. Putting in a stronger performance than annual growth nationally (which was 3.5%) meant that Devon moved up one place to 18^th in the league table of total companies per county.

However, whilst 6,825 new companies were setup in Devon in 2021, this achievement was somewhat undermined by the number of established companies that closed their doors over the year. A record 5,551 businesses ceased trading in Devon in 2021, up 39% on the previous year.
