Appetite to form new company startups in Cumbria remains strong in 2021

Despite the uncertainty presented by a second Covid year entrepreneurial performance wasn’t dampened in Cumbria. 2,286 new companies were registered in the county in 2021, a result almost exactly in line with the five year average figure of 2,253 company formations annually. It brings the total number of businesses registered in Cumbria to 22,499 at the end of 2021.

The appetite to start a new venture was experienced across the whole county. There were 593 new companies set up in Carlisle, 563 in South Lakeland, 394 in Allerdale and 274 new company formations in Barrow-in-Furness.
