Entrepreneurial spirit evident in Berkshire company formation numbers

Whilst Berkshire was unable to continue the exceptional pace of company incorporations set in 2020, with 9,605 new businesses formed in 2021 the entrepreneurial spirit was still very much alive. However, the trials of yet another Covid year can also be seen in the number of businesses that ceased trading. In 2021, 8,449 companies were dissolved in Berkshire, 34.5% more closures than the preceding year.

Despite these challenges the total number of companies registered in Berkshire grew to 75,011 by the end of 2021. Whilst this annual growth of 2.1% slightly underperformed the UK average of 3.5%, Berkshire nevertheless moved up two places to 13^th position in the league table of total number of companies registered by county.
