2014 was a record year for new companies in the UK
The number of new businesses formed in the UK continues to grow, with 586,784 new companies registered with Companies House in 2014. That takes the number of companies on the register to a record high of 3,513,186.
London remains by some distance the most prolific area for start-ups with 191,915 new companies formed in 2014. Greater Manchester and the West Midlands also saw strong growth with 25,381 and 25,059 new companies established respectively.
